PRESS RELEASE
New Song Competition to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Mull Mòd
The Mull Mòd will celebrate it’s 70th anniversary this year.
To mark the occasion the committee are introducing a New Song Competition - Òran Ùr do Mhuile.
The closing date for the competition is 15th July and the songs will go through a process of assessment by prominent Gaelic songwriters and the shortlist for the final will be announced at the Mull Local Mòd in September.
Thanks to funding from the Argyll & Bute LEADER+ fund, a houseband and two local singers Alasdair Whyte and Kirsty MacKinnon, will be employed to perform the shortlisted songs, 3 from each category, at the final event on Saturday 8th November in Tobermory.
The new song competition will have 4 categories;
Category 1 - Youth (U18) Music to lyrics provided;
Category 2 - Adult (18+) Music to lyrics provided;
Category 3 - Youth (U18) Music & lyrics;
Category 4 - Adult (18+) Music & lyrics.
The committee have provided some traditional poems for two of the categories to encourage entries from those not necessarily fluent in the language. The lyrics, translations and sound files can be found on our website www.mullmod.org.uk along with entry forms and guidelines.
There will be a prize fund of up to £2500 with a top prize of £500 so come on – get your musical antennae twitching and help the Mull Mòd celebrate 70 years of success!
